Housing Developor John Yundt

Trey Homes, LLC 

Trey Homes, LLC began in 2023 as a joint venture between Greg Peacock of Shellsburg, Iowa, and John and Lynn Yundt of Vinton, Iowa. The collaboration came together naturally, combining Greg’s construction background and experience as a general contractor on projects throughout Benton County with John’s business acumen, financial backing, local relationships, and active involvement in the Vinton community. Together, they created a strong foundation for investing in the future of Shellsburg. Both men shared a deep appreciation for rural communities and a passion for supporting their long-term growth. Their understanding of Shellsburg’s housing needs developed through conversations and networking with community leaders, residents, and local business owners who wanted to see the town continue to thrive. Around the same time, the Shellsburg Area Community Group (SACG) was working with the Iowa State University Extension Office to conduct a feasibility study for a potential housing development in Shellsburg.

John and Greg participated in these meetings alongside other local business owners, helping explore opportunities for responsible development in the area. Today, Trey Homes, LLC is solely owned by John and Lynn Yundt. Their development, Wildcat Estates, includes 48 residential lots located on the west side of Shellsburg, offering both single-family and zero-lot-line options where buyers can bring their own builder. Lot sizes range from approximately 0.19 to 0.29 acres, providing a variety of options for future homeowners. The development plan also includes a neighborhood park along the northeast boundary, adding a shared green space for residents. Financing is available through Cedar Valley Bank & Trust or a lender of the buyer’s choosing. As a fun piece of the company’s story, Trey Homes, LLC was named after John and Lynn’s three-legged cat, Trey.
